SHAZA LEIGH AND LINDSAY BUTLER: 30 YEARS OF LBS, TAMWORTH FESTIVAL LEGACY, AND A LOVE FOR COUNTRY MUSIC

BY KARLEY REDFERN

Shaza Leigh and Lindsay Butler joined the show to discuss their careers and the ongoing Tamworth Country Music Festival. Shaza, described as one of Australia’s most talented songwriters, has worked with some of the country’s best lyricists. Lindsay, who spent 17 years as Slim Dusty’s guitarist, has had an impressive career, releasing over 35 studio albums and earning numerous awards, including an Order of Australia Medal for his contributions to the Australian Country Music Industry.

When asked about their recipe for success, Shaza explained, “We have a deep respect for each other, both musically and personally. That respect carries our relationship through.” Lindsay added, “It’s a labour of love. I’ll keep going as long as I can.”

Lindsay, who has produced over 4,000 tracks, is still active in the studio. “Recording is a gift. I’ve never lost interest in it,” he said. They’ve worked on close to 200 albums through their label, LBS, over the past 30 years.

Shaza, on the other hand, handles the business side of things, managing marketing and promotion for their own work and other artists. “We co-produce together, but I focus more on the behind-the-scenes work,” she explained.

While both have had incredible success in their careers, Shaza admitted she's not much of a cook. “We’ve got some great cooks at home that look after us,” she laughed.

They’ve also been involved in every aspect of the Tamworth Festival, from hosting shows to supporting emerging talent. “Tamworth is the heart of Australian country music,” Lindsay said. “We’ve seen it grow and evolve, and it’s great to see the enthusiasm returning.”

This year, they hosted two LBS shows and participated in the Pioneer Parade, marking the completion of a major project. “It’s wonderful to be part of the process,” Shaza said.

The couple remains committed to country music, with Lindsay continuing to record and Shaza helping to promote the genre. They’re looking forward to participating in more events throughout the festival, including the People’s Choice Awards and the National Jamboree. “It’s a privilege to be involved,” Lindsay said. “We’re just happy to be part of it.”
