GOVERNOR DAWSON VISITS YINDJIBARNDI COUNTRY TO SEE THE RENEWABLE ENERGY PROJECT
BY ASAD KHAN
Governor of Western Australia, Chris Dawson, and his wife Darrilyn visited Yindjibarndi Ngurra (Country) yesterday, to witness firsthand the groundbreaking work being done as part of the Yindjibarndi Energy Corporation’s (YEC) renewable energy projects.
The visit was significant not only for its focus on environmental sustainability but also for its demonstration of the power of Indigenous-led development in Western Australia's Pilbara region.
Joined by Traditional Owners and community members, Governor Dawson toured the site where the YEC, a partnership between ACEN and the Yindjibarndi Aboriginal Corporation (YAC), will lead the way in delivering large-scale renewable energy initiatives.
Governor Dawson’s visit was an opportunity to witness the positive impacts of the partnership and to reinforce the State Government’s support for Indigenous-led initiatives.
"This collaboration is a great example of how Indigenous communities can lead the way in the transition to renewable energy," he said.
For the Yindjibarndi people, this venture offers not only the promise of clean energy but also a path to economic independence and empowerment through ownership, participation, and the preservation of their cultural heritage.
